The Future Didn't Give Up on Us

Baby_Z_Roberts_2007_04_12_thumb.jpg

Some of you will remember my earlier post, Giving Up on the Future?, where I posted about the difficulty I had accepting that we probably wouldn't have any more children. Well, it's time for the truth to come out. Unbeknownst to me, I was actually pregnant when I wrote that post. Yes, despite all the odds, God decided He wanted us to conceive another little one. I am currently at 13 weeks, and you can see a picture of the little bambino/bambina from today's office visit. To the right side of the picture is the baby's head, with the left arm just above it. The body goes toward the left, and the feet are eclipsed by the body. The baby moved around during the ultrasound and seemed fairly animated, which reassured us since we had first tried to hear the heartbeat and were unable to find it. Prayers are appreciated since pregnancy and labor are not without their own difficulties.

Hi Lisa:

I had a feeling things would work out for you this way. I have heard, literally, dozens of stories like this one where the person was actually pregnant when they gave up. I wish you the best...good for you.

Betsy

Thanks, Betsy! I had not completely given up, but I was pretty sure that we weren't going to conceive again, so it was a big surprise.

When I told my friends at church I learned that about half the church (it seemed) had been praying for us to conceive! One friend had even prayed a Novena to my patron saint. It was very humbling and warming to know so many people care for us.

So, thanks for your well-wishes!

Lisa, what great news!!! We just went to see a newborn this morning (Elizabeth's son, Leif, 13 days old) -- one forgets how tiny and precious they are. Congratulations to you and Don. I guess I won't expect to see you at park day for a while . . . but it sounds like a relatively smooth first trimester, if you didn't know you were pregnant at first (?). We'll be praying for you!

Laura

Hi, Laura! I would have to go back to see exactly when I wrote the first post, but I think I was, like, two weeks along. I hadn't even missed my period yet, so I didn't have any nausea. I ended up being very nauseated in the first trimester from about week 5 till week 9 -- much worse than with Alex, but still not that bad, really. Then I got a brief reprieve before the nausea came back. Right now it is intermittent, and should be on the way out.

And, yes, while I enjoyed park day very much, (particularly seeing you and the boys!) life has taken over and I can tell that's a thing of the past now.

Thank you very much for your prayers. We believe very firmly in the power of prayer!

Congratulations!! That is such exciting news, I am so happy for you. I'll be keeping you and your new baby in my prayers.

I was sad to read though that you aren't going to be coming to the park playdays anymore - Emma and I have missed you and Sarah and Alex!

Thanks, Amber! I very much apreciate the prayers. It is sad about the park day, but we've just found ourselves overwhelmed these days. We've missed you, too!

Absolutely wonderful news! Best of luck to ya!
